The showdown between the 2024 World Car of the Year (EV9) and the 2025 World Luxury Car (EX90) represents a key moment in the evolution of electric SUVs.

The evaluation compared the EV9 GT-line (AWD) with the EX90 Twin Motor AWD across seven categories: body, convenience, powertrain, driving performance, connectivity, eco-friendliness, and economy.

The EV9 excelled in three main aspects: body, powertrain, and efficiency, also doing notably well in additional categories. With a score of 589 points, it outperformed the EX90 which garnered 571 points.

In the body category, the EV9 stood out due to its functional design. With a wheelbase measuring 3,100mm, it offers ample room inside, separate rear seating, and an impressive 2,393 liters of storage when the back row is folded down, which matches well with what European buyers look for in terms of adaptability and smart engineering.

The EV9 performed exceptionally well in the powertrain segment, earning high marks for handling, responsiveness, maximum velocity, and energy efficiency, outscoring or equaling the EX90 across several subcategories.

Auto Bild Real-world tests highlighted the EV9’s superior performance. It went from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and accomplished the 80-120 km/h overtaking maneuver in 3.5 seconds, surpassing the EX90’s times of 5.8 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h and 3.7 seconds for the 80-120 km/h acceleration.

The German magazine highlighted that even with the discrepancy in power, the EV9 surpassed the EX90 due to its substantial 120kg (265 pounds) lighter frame and superior electric propulsion system. The EV9 GT-line generates 283kW (385 hp), whereas the EX90 Twin Motor AWD offers slightly more at 300kW (408 hp).

During practical efficiency evaluations, the EV9 exhibited outstanding energy management, highlighting the efficacy of its battery management system (BMS).
