Hot Weather Strains Vehicles: Auto Shops Experience Surge in Repairs

Intense heat isn't merely unpleasant for individuals; it also forces cars to operate more strenuously. As a result, local auto repair businesses are noticing a rise in vehicular issues linked to higher temperatures.

Andrew Hinojosa, a local commuter who depends on his pickup truck, mentions he is very cautious about safety.

"I understand that if anything falls short of the rhythm, it needs to be brought in sooner rather than later," stated Hinojosa.

To avoid expensive problems, he adheres to a regular maintenance routine.

I own a pickup truck, which means I get the tires rotated and change the oil every 5 to 10 thousand miles," explained Hinojosa. "I also keep an eye out for any issues.

Technicians such as Chris Taylor, who owns Danny’s Automotive, are advising motorists to have their cars checked out promptly before a small problem develops into a significant malfunction.

"As soon as you encounter a problem with your car, you should get it checked out by a certified mechanic who can assess the situation and prevent further damage and higher costs down the line," explained Chris Taylor, owner of Danny’s Automotive.

Taylor mentions they're encountering issues ranging from depleted batteries to air conditioning leaks as summer reaches its peak.

"AC issues appear far more frequently in oilfield trucks due to their idling nature. Vehicles are designed for driving rather than remaining stationary," stated Taylor.

Taylor has spent 18 years in the industry. At the height of summer, his garage would service as many as 55 vehicles daily, primarily dealing with problems caused by excessive heat.

Elevated temperatures may reduce your vehicle’s battery lifespan, accelerate fluid evaporation, and boost the chances of tire bursts because of inflated pressures. Both AAA and neighborhood garages suggest frequently assessing your battery health and routinely inspecting your tire inflation levels.

Apart from mechanical problems, ultraviolet light can harm your vehicle's external paint job and fade the inside of your car. Specialists recommend employing reflective shades and seeking shaded areas for parking when feasible.

Regarding air conditioning systems, heat can make the refrigerant expand and contract, which may result in leaks and diminished cooling efficiency over time.

Motorists should consider keeping an emergency kit in their vehicles and setting up a roadside assistance plan as a precautionary measure.
