Officials discovered 43 purloined high-end automobiles in two parking structures on Jennings Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx. These stolen vehicles had an aggregate worth of $3,650,000 and are associated with a theft gang.

Matthew Platkin, New Jersey’s Attorney General, along with the Division of Criminal Justice, has charged eleven individuals suspected of being part of an auto theft operation. During this probe, authorities discovered forty-three purloined high-end automobiles in the Bronx. Among these recovered vehicles were makes like Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.

As stated by the prosecutors, the suspected criminals would focus on high-end automobiles before breaking into houses to obtain the keys. Afterward, they would use these keys to start the stolen vehicles and transport them to car parks located within loading zones for eventual export overseas.

New Jersey Takes Action Against Auto Theft

Although vehicle theft rates in New Jersey have dropped considerably during the last year and continue to decline in 2025, we remain dedicated to cutting these numbers even lower," stated Attorney General Platkin. "This particular case goes beyond mere auto theft; it involves robbing individuals of their peace of mind and security. It's unacceptable for anyone to live with the fear that criminals might break into their homes at night to take their key fobs for stealing cars, which has been reported here. Therefore, we're collaborating closely to utilize all available resources to restore that feeling of protection within our neighborhoods—this includes implementing new legislation, adopting advanced technologies, and enhancing data exchange among police departments and across state lines to dismantle car theft networks.

The charging papers indicate that the auto-theft gang focused on Morris, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, and Burlington counties. Following the thefts of these high-end automobiles, the suspects transported them to the Bronx, receiving payment from "middlemen" who subsequently prepared the vehicles for exportation to "West African nations." Multiple stolen luxury cars were identified within shipping containers at Elizabeth Port in New Jersey and Staten Island Port in New York. The initial signs of this luxury-car heist operation came to light in July 2024.

More Than Just Stolen Luxury Vehicles

The alleged thieves stole more than just car keys and luxury vehicles. Surveillance video captured during one break in shows the theft of “a Gucci purse, Gucci wallet, Valentino wallet, $400 in cash, a driver’s license, a N.J. Firearms ID card, and the vehicles.”

This case illustrates how automobile theft has evolved into a worldwide business. Vehicles valued at millions of dollars were seized, including a $475,000 Rolls Royce, which ended up stored in a Bronx parking lot utilized as an exhibition space by the suspects. These cars were later shipped overseas inside containers destined for New Jersey and eventually West Africa. As stated by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, "Specifically, my office’s Assistant District Attorney Jessica Lupo, who serves as Deputy Chief in the Trial Division, collaborated with the NYPD Auto Crime Unit and NJ Attorney General Matthew Platkin to uncover and break down this criminal network. Car crimes won’t be tolerated in our borough."
