Nexteer Automotive Cuts 80 Jobs in Saginaw County and Auburn Hills Locations

BUENA VISTA TWP. — Nexteer Automotive has let go of 80 employees at its facility in Buena Vista as well as its worldwide headquarters located in Auburn Hills.

In 2022, Nexteer had 3,900 employees in Michigan. Out of this number, 3,800 worked at their facility located in Buena Vista Township, as reported by Saginaw Future Inc. The factory in Saginaw County stands out as the sole U.S. production hub for Nexteer. Globally, the corporation manages 27 manufacturing plants and reportedly employed around 13,000 individuals across all locations as of last year.

Nexteer provides electric and hydraulic power steering systems, driveline components, steering columns, and technology for autonomous vehicles to car manufacturers globally.

Previously known as Delphi Saginaw Steering Systems, the facility transitioned into Nexteer Automotive in 2009 during General Motors' restructuring. The following year, China-based Pacific Century Motors acquired the company from GM. Then, in 2011, AVIC Automobile took over as the primary shareholder.

In Saginaw County, Nexteer ranks as the second-biggest employer, with only Covenant Healthcare offering more job opportunities, as stated by Saginaw Future.
